In keeping with tradition and familial character, my mother rescued a tiny, scraggly kitten today. It had been wandering around my parents' store for the past couple of days, nearly got run over twice, got chased out of the warehouse at least once. When my mother heard of this, she got pissed, went hunting around, listened intently for meowing, then finally found it perched atop someone's car tire. Now she's trying to pawn the kitten off on me.

She's sort of a mess (the kitten, not my mother). All bones, bald in some spots, and dirty. With her little face and huge ears, she reminds me of a tiny, black Yoda. And despite all of her awful recent experiences, she's surprisingly forward and affectionate. I spent a good two hours with her this afternoon, holed up in the bathroom at my mother's house, and like any respectable cat, she promptly draped herself across the book I was reading.

But still. How can I take a cat? I live on the 5th floor, with a roommate notorious for leaving the sliding door open. Also, someone whom I love dearly despises cats, and I'd like for him to continue coming over.

Alex is out of town until Sunday (Monday?). He just called me from a bar bathroom in Asheville, NC. It was very echoey. Mon amour est très romantique.
