A couple weekends ago, I absorbed a day's worth of HGTV and somehow convinced my mother to makeover the half bathroom. The previous decor was slightly nauseating due to peeling aqua and coral paisley print wallpaper from 1990, a piece o' crap wooden vanity, and a chipped medicine cabinet mirror. Removing the wallpaper was the most pleasing part for me, and it peeled off so easily, like it'd been waiting years and years for that moment.

The room is tiny, about 8 x 3 ft, but it's already turned into a daunting task. First, we had to pull off all the baseboards. Door frame too. We tried to be gentle and preserve it to cut costs, but the wood was old and brittle and split all over the place. Next, the color we chose looked pretty on the paint square, but once spread on the wall, turned garish and blinding. We repainted, and the new color's nice.

Today we bought the vanity. We measured and re-measured. We already knew the plumbing would have to be re-routed slightly, and the back of the vanity cut out in some places to accommodate bobo pipe location. We got it home. We took it out of the back of the truck -- slowly, and with much effort. It was heavy. My fingers got smashed; Mom laughed. We removed it from its box with much difficulty. The marble backsplash was broken in half. We will have to improvise a new backsplash with tile and pizazz. It remains to be seen whether the 36 inch width of the vanity will fit into the 36 inch width of our bathroom. Initial tests proved doubtful.
